    Business adaptation during the pandemic

    Guides

With the severe health and humanitarian crisis caused by the coronavirus pandemic, entrepreneurs around the world are grappling with enormous business challenges. These include a collapse in customer demand, significant regulatory changes, supply chain disruptions, unemployment, economic recession, and increased uncertainty. Just as the health and humanitarian side of the crisis is, so too is the business side.

    1. What position can you achieve during and after the pandemic?
To make smart strategic decisions, you need to understand your organization’s position in your environment. Who are you in your market, what role do you play in your industry, and who are your main competitors? You also need to understand where you’re headed. Can you close and reopen as is after the pandemic? Can you regain lost ground? Will you go bankrupt, or will you become a market leader, driven by developments during the lockdown?

    2. What is your recovery plan from the crisis?
A plan is a roadmap to the position you hope to achieve. It should explain what you need to do today to achieve your goals tomorrow. In the current context, the question arises: what needs to be done to get through the crisis and get back to business afterward. The lack of a plan only exacerbates the confusion in an already confusing situation. As you prepare the steps you plan to take, consider carefully what you can do to bounce back.

    3. How to manage people and the atmosphere during a crisis?
You likely spend a lot of time monitoring your employees while they work remotely. You need to know that business collaboration is based on trust. Treat your employees as partners, and they will also strive to stay motivated during this challenging time. A crisis can bring people closer together in pursuit of their goals. It can also drive people apart if their emotions and mental well-being aren’t properly managed. How culturally prepared was your organization to cope with the crisis? Will the current situation bring employees closer together or tear them apart? Will you see a different organization after the pandemic ends? Your answers will show you where you are now and what your company might look like after the pandemic.

    4. What projects will help solve human problems in your industry during and after the pandemic?
Almost every industry can solve people’s problems during this difficult time. Some are essential, such as groceries and hygiene, while others ensure we don’t get bored during the pandemic, providing work tools or providing essential services. A restaurant suffering significant losses due to its closed premises may need to look for alternative ways to deliver meals during this time. It could also offer culinary courses for a subscription fee. You need to ask yourself two questions: How do you plan to protect yourself from business closure? How can you solve people’s problems during the pandemic with your services or products?

    5. Are you ready to fight?
Finally, you need to assess your organization’s readiness. Are you ready and able to implement the projects you’ve outlined, especially if a significant portion of your organization has transitioned to remote work? We see significant variations in readiness at the individual, team, organizational, and national levels. Available resources, as well as the speed and quality of decision-making processes, vary significantly, and these differences will determine who achieves and who does not.
