Amazon is preparing to attack the Polish market

Amazon has long had several warehouses in Poland, housing logistics centers and Europe’s largest book printing plant. Gdańsk also hosts an R&D center where work on the Alexa voice assistant is underway. Many Poles have long worked at Amazon, and until now, Amazon was perceived as cheap labor. This is about to change with the company’s entry into the Polish market.
We saw a glimpse of this when Amazon’s German website was made available to Poles in 2016. This nod to Polish customers, however, did not mean entering the Polish market, but rather the lifting of the regional lock. Polish customers could indeed sell on the platform, but this required registering their company in Germany (a VAT payer).
Cooperation with the Polish Post
According to reports from reliable sources, Amazon would like to collaborate with Poczta Polska (Polish Post) to deliver parcels within Poland. However, we all know how timely this logistics chain is, especially since Amazon is known for its lightning-fast shipping and delivery. The choice of Poczta Polska (Polish Post) was intended as a nod to the Polish government, which could contribute to thawing the giant’s relations with the government. This may only be a temporary solution, especially since Amazon wants to launch its own logistics chain within two years. Interestingly, the couriers would use electric delivery vehicles thanks to a contract with Rivian.
Amazon Bookstore
Everyone is waiting for the introduction of Polish e-commerce, which would bring us closer to opening an Amazon bookstore. However, judging by the experience of recent years, this may happen much later.
