    Whiskey in the Jar, or either thick or nothing at all

    Whiskey in the Jar is a brand owned by the Mitsuro Group, a company founded by the outstanding visionary restaurateur Mikołaj Kotecki. When creating the brand, he dreamed of surpassing HardRockCafe – not in size or global presence, but in atmosphere and food quality. In 2017, B4F was asked to streamline the brand’s communication and “give it a proverbial boost.” Today, Whiskey in the Jar has restaurants in key Polish cities (Poznań, Wrocław, Warsaw, Łódź, and Gdańsk), creating a chain of restaurants with a unique atmosphere.     Website Operation Assumptions and Preparatory Work

    When working on the concept, we wanted to combine functionality (including a calendar of events in restaurants, a table reservation system, and an extensive career module with the option of applying to various locations in Poland) with a unique design that gives a “taste” of the interior style and exceptional cuisine.

    • We conducted a persona analysis – we distinguished several personas, including: 1. A tourist from abroad who visits the restaurant as an attraction during his stay 2. A wealthy party animal, i.e. a guest visiting the restaurant with friends to spend time “before” and taste the jars 3. A gourmet, a guest who enjoys food, who comes alone or with his family for dinner
    • We developed a description of the website’s specific features and functionality. Our goal was to encourage visits by demonstrating the quality of the food through video, and to showcase the dishes and dishes through unique photos. We developed user journeys along with their information needs.
    • We prepared a preliminary design of the homepage in mobile and desktop versions so that our client could assess whether we were visually heading in the direction they wanted

    After approving the initial design, we prepared full implementation documentation in the form of clickable desktop and mobile mockups. Due to the extensive functionality, 36 unique views and over 20 additional views were created. During the mockup phase, we also demonstrated the operation of small animations.

    video and photos

    The specific nature of the website required the development of unique and exceptionally challenging content. We utilized materials produced by other companies (including an image shoot and event footage), produced virtually all the photos showcasing the bar and food menu, and recorded a live cooking video. This resulted in a unique mix that captures the unique atmosphere of Whiskey in the Jar.

    Implementation desktop and mobile

    As usual, we divided the implementation process into two-week sprints, handing over individual stages of work so the client could monitor progress on an ongoing basis. Due to the very difficult design to implement on both desktop and mobile, the implementation process took over four months.

    Preparing the website for publication

    We handled virtually every aspect of the website’s development – ​​the client received a finished product, ready to publish. We developed blog content and optimized images and videos for loading speed.

    • We implemented content provided by the client, embedded photos and videos, and prepared translations for all subpages
    • We performed manual testing on the BETA version with full content (displaying on various mobile and desktop formats, and verified the functionality of forms and integrations)
    • We optimized the website according to SEO agency guidelines
    • We tested and optimized loading speed
    • We verified the website’s security

    After preparing the production environment (LIVE), we migrated the website:

    • Exporting the database and files from staging
    • Importing to the production server
    • Checking permalink structures
    • Setting an SSL certificate + enforcing HTTPS
    • Optimizing loading speed (CSS/JS minification, lazy loading, image optimization)
    • We implemented Google Analytics (to measure website traffic and collect remarketing databases)

    Technical Support and Development

    As part of our development work, we designed and implemented an e-shop dedicated to selling Whiskey in the Jar branded gifts, including a clothing collection that has proven extremely popular with guests. When building the e-shop, we introduced it as a separate module, linked to and presented through a dedicated section on the restaurant’s homepage, to encourage purchases.
