What trends dominated website design in 2015?

    Inspirations

Every year we can observe changes in fashion. Regardless of whether we are talking about clothing, architecture or branding. Looking at websites, we can also distinguish trends. What was popular in website design in 2015?

    Scroll and scroll

The growing popularity of mobile devices has had a significant impact on website design. Many websites published today seem to have no end to scrolling. Using scrolling instead of linking is becoming more and more common, especially as users increasingly visit websites using their smartphones or tablets. Importantly, this trend is now appearing not only on home pages, but also on product and “about us” pages.

    Storytelling

Interesting, engaging content is what every website owner or creator wants. On the other hand, it won’t sell without a nice package. This trend focuses on telling stories to users in an interesting, graphic way, often using scrolling (as in the example).

    Interaction

Interaction, interaction and more interaction. Websites increasingly present content to users in a more creative way. They encourage action, introduce you to their world like a game or a movie. Interactivity combined with animation, provided it is done well, can add a wow effect to any website.

    Background without photo

That is, the opposite of the popular trend of a large photo on the home page in recent years. The first thing every user sees when they enter the site. So what is the easiest way to stand out from the competition? Do the complete opposite and get rid of the photo. More and more sites still have a large header, but without a photo. It has been replaced with a large text on a plain background.

    Minimalism

A trend that has been omnipresent for a long time in many fields, and is also present in website design. Minimum content, forms and colors.

    Photography

We certainly won’t give up stock photos anytime soon, but they are increasingly being replaced by high-quality, location- and purpose-appropriate photography. This is a step forward and, thanks to this, the materials on the site become unique – no one will use these photos like they do in the case of stock photos. Films are also used interchangeably with photography.

    Hidden menu

This is another trend that has been transferred to the big screen. It is one of the techniques used in responsive website design. However, until now, drop-down menus were only used for mobile devices. This year, more and more have been hiding menus on websites as well, with the menu only visible when the user is ready to proceed.

    Size matters

In addition to large images, large fonts have become popular. Typography is important in web design, but recently size has become a differentiator. When presented on the home page, it is impossible to miss.
